Why does "Big Tech" matter?

Big Tech drives progress. These companies invest billions in research and development, pushing boundaries in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and clean energy. Their innovations often trickle down, giving startups and smaller firms access to technologies that were once out of reach.

My favourite tech product is the smart speaker. Either the HomePod from Apple or Pill by Beats by Dre works for me

At the same time, Big Tech matters because of its power and the responsibility that comes with it. These corporations control massive amounts of data and shape the flow of information across the world. This raises questions about privacy, fairness, and the impact of algorithms on what we see and believe. Governments and regulators are now working to find the right balance between encouraging innovation and protecting consumers.

In many ways, Big Tech is the new infrastructure of modern life — as essential as electricity or roads once were. How these companies act, grow, and are held accountable will define the digital age. Whether you’re a business owner, a student, or simply someone with a smartphone, understanding Big Tech isn’t optional anymore. It’s part of understanding the world we live in.
